Obama acted stupidly.
Years ago we went on holiday and when we arrived home in the middle of the night, exhausted, we discovered that we had lost our keys and were locked out, so we broke in to our own home.
As my husband was breaking in the police arrived. Our neighbour knowing we were away had heard noises coming from our property and called the police. Even though we had three small children with us, a pile of suitcases and we explained the circumstances, we still had to prove that it was in fact our house by showing ID.
I suppose I must be extremely naive because all these years it never occurred to me for a second that we were being racially profiled. Now after what has happened in the US with Obama’s friend Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. I realise that must be what happened to us too.
Oh I guess the other possibility could be that the police were just doing their job, they had been called to a possible breaking and entering and were investigating and if we weren’t really the owners and they just took our word for it they would have had a lot of explaining to do. It was also quite clear at the time that if we had been belligerent and rude to them we would have been in deep shit.
So we co-operated. Obama’s friend didn’t;
Gates was locked out of his own house, so he and his driver broke into it, something I am sure many people have had to do, but a call was made to the police reporting a suspected burglary. When the police arrived, Gates informed them it was his house but got belligerent when asked to show identification proving he lived there, causing the police to arrest him for loud and tumultuous behavior in a public space. The charges were dropped, but Gates accused the officers of racial profiling.
What is it with some black people? They need to get that enormous chip off their shoulders and stop seeing racism everywhere. I mean blacks aren’t the only ones who have suffered oppression. It wasn’t that long ago that women were, and in some cultures still are, considered second class citizens. Do I as a woman feel that I am constantly being discriminated against because of my gender? No actually I never ever feel like that.
I am so sick of accusations of racism being thrown around.
It doesn’t matter that this man lives in a country that recently elected a ‘black’ president or that he has been able to achieve the position of Harvard professor or that he has a chauffeur and is wealthy and successful.
Or that the cop being accused of racial profiling teaches courses in how to avoid racial profiling.
It doesn’t matter that one of the police officers at the scene, Sgt. Leon Lashley, was black.
Sgt. Leon Lashley says Gates was probably tired and surprised when Sgt. James Crowley demanded identification from him as officers investigated a report of a burglary. Lashley says Gates’ reaction to Crowley was “a little bit stranger than it should have been.”
Asked if Gates should have been arrested, Lashley said supported Crowley “100 percent.”
Gates has said he was the victim of racial profiling.
President Barack Obama says the officers “acted stupidly.” Lashley called Obama’s remark “unfortunate” and said he should be allowed to take it back.
Most interesting has been President Barrack Hussein Obama’s decision to jump in and offer his opinion.
How quick was Obama to jump the conclusion that the police had acted stupidly. How quick was Obama to assume racism even while admitting he didn’t know all the facts. Obama shows once again that it is he, in fact, who is racist and guilty of racial profiling.
Obama is now back peddling at a million miles an hour but can’t quite spit out the words ‘I’m sorry’ to Officer Crowley and the Cambridge police. Instead he is recasting himself in the role of calm and reasonable mediator between the equally irrational Gates and Crowley and has invited them over for a beer.
But, the president said: “I continue to believe, based on what I have heard, that there was an overreaction in pulling Prof. Gates out of his home and to the station. I also continue to believe, based on what I heard, that Prof. Gates
probablyoverreacted as well.”
I hope the cop says NO!

Gate’s house had been broken into before. Thats why Gate had to jimmy the door to get it open. I am so sick and tired of Black racism. It is everywhere. The term African-American is racist. If you were born and raised in this country, you are an American! Obama is a moron. His presidency is going to be a disaster.
I completely agree Reese. You make a good point. Why call themselves African Americans? It’s bizarre. Most of them would never have stepped foot in Africa and would know absolutely nothing about Africa.

It is interesting that Gates claims to understand oppression and unfair treatment at the hands of white racists. This is what he teaches about in his classes. Rather than do as instructed by the policeman, he became belligerent, because he is probably used to playing the race card to get what he wants. This leads me to believe that this is how he attained his position at Harvard. Threatening to play the race card makes a lot of people nervous, and Gates seems to be an expert at it. This time, it backfired. He picked the wrong cop to try and bully.
Gates, because he was angry and slightly inconvenienced was willing to run to the media and try to destroy the career and life of a white police officer with lies and false claims against him. Isn’t this what black people have been claiming that whites do to them all the time? Racism can go both ways…I know this is a novel concept, but the only racism displayed in this incident was by the “renowned scholar” and President Obama. Obama should be ashamed, but again, in what can only be construed as arrogance, Obama does not feel that he has to apologize. Let’s imagine if this were the other way around.
When I was pulled over by a white officer in my neighborhood, I did not immediately start screaming about how blacks are treated in America. I simply did as I was told, and he informed me that my tail light was out and that I should get it fixed. No tickets, no hate, just two people acting cicvilized. Gates obviously feels that he is above the law because he is an educated black man. I am glad, at least for the moment , that the chip was knocked off his condescending, racist shoulder. Unlike me, though, Gates gets to go to the White House to have a beer because of his behavior, which I guess Obama considers worthy of such an honor. Must be nice to be a black man in America these days.
