Sarah Palin 1 The Age 0

The Age today sneeringly compared Sarah Palin to Pauline Hanson

DURING Pauline Hanson’s sojourn in the political limelight, it was noted that her popularity rarely diminished when she made the sort of gaffe in media interviews that would embarrass most other politicians, or even destroy their credibility. On the contrary, those “Please explain” moments seemed to evoke empathy from people who perhaps themselves struggled to explain the meanings of some words, and felt intimidated or patronised by interviewers and commentators who used those words. It is probable that something similar will be happening in the United States, as American voters watch the interviews with Republican nominee John McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin, that are being broadcast on network television.

Of course, it’s just the uneducated redneck mentally deficient hicks that would vote for Sarah Palin! What other explanation could there be?
The Age goes on;

When Charlie Gibson, the anchorman for ABC’s World News, asked Mrs Palin about the Bush doctrine, it was evident that she did not know what he meant. The alarming thing is that this may be no electoral liability for Mrs Palin, who, if Senator McCain wins the election to become the oldest person ever to take office as president, will be only the proverbial heartbeat away from becoming her nation’s commander-in-chief.

The Bush doctrine, declared by President George Bush in September 2002, asserts that the US has what Gibson described as a right to “anticipatory self-defence”. In other words, the US claims the right to launch a preventive attack on any country it believes may pose a threat.

But wait! The Age got it wrong. The stupid ignorant mentally deficient Age.
And Charlie Gibson got it wrong.

There is no single meaning of the Bush doctrine. In fact, there have been four distinct meanings, each one succeeding another over the eight years of this administration — and the one Charlie Gibson cited is not the one in common usage today. It is utterly different.

He asked Palin, “Do you agree with the Bush doctrine?”

She responded, quite sensibly to a question that is ambiguous, “In what respect, Charlie?”

Sensing his “gotcha” moment, Gibson refused to tell her. After making her fish for the answer, Gibson grudgingly explained to the moose-hunting rube that the Bush doctrine “is that we have the right of anticipatory self-defense.”

Wrong…

…Presidential doctrines are inherently malleable and difficult to define. The only fixed “doctrines” in American history are the Monroe and the Truman doctrines which come out of single presidential statements during administrations where there were few other contradictory or conflicting foreign policy crosscurrents.

Such is not the case with the Bush doctrine.

Yes, Sarah Palin didn’t know what it is. But neither does Charlie Gibson. And at least she didn’t pretend to know — while he looked down his nose and over his glasses with weary disdain, sighing and “sounding like an impatient teacher,” as the Times noted. In doing so, he captured perfectly the establishment snobbery and intellectual condescension that has characterized the chattering classes’ reaction to the mother of five who presumes to play on their stage.

Wow, so The Age didn’t know either! Elitist lefty supercilious morons!
I honestly don’t think i’ve ever read anything so snobby in my life. How hilarious that they could portray such pompous outrage. Depict Sarah Palin as an idiot who unfortunately has appeal with the lower class basically because they can relate to her stupidity.
And then they are wrong. It’s quite delicious!
